    Get lucky
Author Brandon McMillan guest host of the TV show Lucky Dog is an experienced animal trainer having grown up in a family of trainers. His book is full of helpful and useful techniques to train your dog , allowances and tips are given for all types and breeds of dogs as well as stories based on his experiences. There is a chapter devoted to each of the 7 Basic Commands and if you have watched his tv show you have heard them before. Each command is adequately explained and includes the equipment needed to practice it. There are also chapters on common dog problems with corresponding training . These common problems such as excessive barking, digging , aggression and door dashing etc. can be dealt with and failure to train usually results in an owner giving up on dogs and increasing the shelter population and possible euthanasia. By following these techniques enumerated in this book, dogs can be saved from shelters , possible euthanasia and become more adoptable and find their forever home. This is Brandons mission , to rescue dogs and get them into loving homes. This book was chock full of helpful information and can be a valuable resource to anyone who owns a dog or will eventually. Recommended .

    Good trainer
I actually bought this book for my niece who just bought a dog recently. I did not read the book, however, I have watched this author’s TV shows. He is very instructive, and gives great, simple lessons. If you get a chance to watch the show called lucky dog, give it a look. Very, very informative.

Completely explains reason and how of each lesson
We’ve seen his shows, loved them and saw this book. It was a perfect way for me to reference ba k to what he teaches. We have a female lab/Shepard puppy (now 10 months old). I already started training her on my own but wanted to check on how I was doing and also wanted to find proper hand signs. I was happy to see I was very close. I got the sit, stay, off, and no exactly. I’m very surprised how many people say down instead of off to get off firniture or people. Other commands I used were close and plan to change. My heel was more of the come as well as walking beside us, which I will change so I can use the heel properly. I was saying lay down for down and plan use down to make it less complicated. I use stay when we go out the door or exit the car. I think I will change that to wait which she knows for to wait befor Taking food. She already knows ok. I will say we are very lucky to have a very smart and loving dog. She loves to learn, play, and cuddle. Even at 58lbs.

    An honest review
I love the show and so I bought the book. The book has lots of stories about real dogs he’s trained over the years and it goes into great detail about training methods. Gives a lot of options depending on whether you have a small dog or large dog, which is a plus and not something I’d seen in other dog training info. It is a lot of reading. It’s not just a simple picture book with brief instructions. He goes into great detail, which is good, but it does require a lot of reading time to get thru.My biggest complaint is that most of his sollutions require the purchase of some kind of dog training equipment. Everything from a clicker, to a shake can, to a leading lure, to certain types of collars, harnesses and leashes. Frankly, I just want to train my puppy in basic commands and do away with a few annoying bad habits (jumping, and biting hands) I don’t want to have to gear up like a professional dog trainer and buy a bunch of stuff that I won’t need in a few weeks time. If I have to buy all this gear to properly train my dog, I will just enroll him for professional dog training and be done with it.So keep in mind, these techniques are good and will no doubt work, IF you have the time, the commitment and are willing to invest in training equipment.

We rescued a 1.5 year old street dog from India. Lot of obstacles. This book makes it simple. Heard about it on a podcast and really happy we got it. He keeps things clear and to the point. The author’s goal is to make this as straight forward a process as possible and prove anyone can do it. You owe it to your dog to be the most understanding you can be.

This is an excellent book on dog training and how to get your dog to be a companion/family dog. Filled with many shared personal experiences with various breeds each with a different challenge and how this was addressed. It takes you through how to teach your dog the seven basic commands and how to deal with behavioural issues. Found the tip on how to deal with a nipping dog challenging as not sure how I will do this with my Bullmastiff, when I finally get one – and here’s hoping I do not have to deal with that problem. The author is clearly a high confident leader and trainer of animals, not just dogs and this comes through in the book. Worth every penny. Email address please so we can at least chat with the author.
