Small! But nice.
This is well made, and will work for my 8-pound dog, but I wouldn’t attempt using it for my 15-pound dog. It’s nice to know it’s strong enough for 20 pounds, but someone buying it for a 20-pound dog will be disappointed. I bought the front carrier from the same company by accident when I meant to buy this. I didn’t notice there were the two styles. I ended up keeping both, because I think the front carrier might be handy at times. I have four dogs and the largest is 35 pounds, so the 8-pound boy wears out on walks before the others, and the pack is to let him stop before the others are tired. This backpack version is about the same size as the medium-sized front carrier. The front carrier has a hard bottom, which this one lacks (has a thick removable pad instead), but this one has a zipper close on top which the front carrier lacks. For me the backpack is much more comfortable. The front pack is like becoming instantly 9 months pregnant, and having the weight in front feels like it’s more taxing on my back. However, I think the dog likes being in front. They are both light weight and well made. If you have a dog larger than about 10 pounds then they’d fit in the medium-sized front carrier better than in this, but you’ll need to use your judgement about how hard it is on your back to carry in front. I’ve tried the front carrier with the 15-pound dog, and would not want to use it for a very long distance.

Outward Hound PoochPouch & Puppak Carrier
When you have a dachshund, or, in my case, a mini dachshund (or any dog with a long back), you have to be very careful about what type of carrier you use. Your puppy or adult has to be able to lay down in the carrier to prevent back injuries with those long backs. Carriers where they have to sit up are just not very comfortable or safe for a long back puppy. Now, finding carriers that allow this is not as easy as one would think. Not many carriers actually allow them to lie down like this. When I saw this carrier, I knew it was one I would need to try. My puppy is only 13 weeks old (9 weeks when I got her) so I could not put her on a leash and just walk her as she was not fully vaccinated and our vet said not until she is 22 weeks old. This means, a lot of carrying puppy in my future. I needed a carrier. This one works and is comfortable for both of us!I put a blanket inside to give her something soft to lay on, and throw a couple of her favorite toys inside and she is happy.PROS:The carrier has a collar/harness clip inside to hook to her harness to keep her safe and prevent her from jumping out. There is a very nice, large pocket on it where you could keep training treats, your keys, or wallet. My phone fits perfectly in this pocket which is very convenient. When she is in the carrier, the shoulder strap is very comfortable for me.The sides are adjustable to make sure she can see, get in and out, and keep her level on my hip. There are nice side vents to allow for air flow through the carrier, not just over it.CONS:I do wish that the adjustable side straps were on the opposite end as the collar/harness clip because she thinks it is a great chew toy but that is the only thing I would see as a con.Overall, I do see it as a great carrier for any puppy but very useful for my mini dachshund and any other long back puppers out there.Would be great if they made it in other colors as well, but the grey is very nice and I cannot complain. If you want a comfortable carrier where your puppy can lie down, this is a great one to try.

Medium is too small for a 20 pound dog.
Over all I really liked this carrier. It is sturdy, comfortable to wear and my puppy was comfortable in it. I purchased the Medium size which states it will carry a dog up to 20 lbs. This is not accurate. My puppy outgrew the carrier when he reached 10 lbs. I was only able to use it a few times before he outgrew it and now it is past the window for returns. Very disappointed. If you have a dog that will not exceed 10 lbs. when full grown, I would recommend this carrier. Otherwise, do not purchase it. Also, there are no pockets on this model. After I purchased this one I discovered there is a newer model with pockets to carry a bottle of water, a cell phone and/or small bowl. I would suggest looking for that model.

Edit: looking at the advertisement photos again and realized you can cross cross the straps thus no need for mwe to add a buckle. I tried this and it solves the issue of the straps slidding off.Overall a pretty good carrier. My dog is about 9lbs (15 yrs old), a standard yorkie. Plenty of room and he can sit comfortably. Needed something for both winter and summer so this seemed like a good fit as I can add blankets to keep him warm and for summer lots of good airflow. Overall it fits good (I’m 5ft). One big design flaw though is that it keeps wanting to slid off the shoulders if you don’t have your back straight. I am going to add a buckle strap behind my shoulders and that should do the trick. The quality is very good and I’m happy with it but will definitely add the strap in the back so it doesn’t slide. We’ve used this for walks around the neighbourhood and one mountain trip.

Given the Westie in the picture I assumed it would be a bit larger. The French Bulldog at 6 months barely fits in and he is still growing. The quality of the product is good though
