she doesn’t like to wait but she does it anyway
I’ve only had this book for 2 weeks, and my 1 yr. old pit-bull that I adopted is breezing through the steps. I was a little overwhelmed with her at first because her energy level is so high. she wouldn’t listen unless I was screaming at her or unless my boyfriend was around (she would listen to him) I didn’t know what to do and even considered rehoming her. well I was raised that a dog is part of the family and is a life long commitment so rehoming just wasn’t an option for me. I started with taking her to the dog park 1-2 times a week. that helped tremendously to get rid of her energy but I still couldn’t get her to listen. I bought this book +2 more to start the training process. I’ve only received this one so far so I cannot compare the books. however I can tell you that this ones is great. ever since I have embraced my “leadership role” she has been a new dog. she waits for me to put her food down and get her out of her kennel. she knows she wont be petted unless she is sitting or laying down. she knows to sit with me on the couch instead of climbing all over me and acting crazy. she doesn’t like to wait but she does it anyway. My mom came over the other day so we practiced introductions and it went very well. I’ve committed to training for 10 minutes 3 times a day and it has made a huge difference. She is starting to be the well mannered young lady that I know she can be. I promise if you put the work in you will have the dog you deserve!

Definitive Skills for Dogs AND Humans!
Ms Bridwell has written the definitive book about getting inside your furry best friends head! It’s not just about getting your dog to behave or do “tricks”, it’s about forming a bonding relationship between human and canine so that you don’t fail in your responsibilities for his life and happiness. No one will ever love you like a dog will- unconditionally! She goes beyond the mechanics of dog obedience and explains why things like setting your dog up for success is so vital for your success as a dog owner. I’ve given this book away to over a dozen people who, despite attending obedience schools never realized any success. Some of them just don’t (& probably never will) get it, but this book has helped many friends who would still be lost without it.

This book had everything i needed to help train my Boston Terrier
I highly recommend this book, which gives you the A-Z of raising your dog with mannerism. The book is written for novices in mind and had been a major life-saver when I was at a complete loss as to what to do when I first got my Boston Terrier, Booda. The book delves into the highly effective method of positive training for dogs at length, resulting in my teaching my pup many commands in just days. This book is a must-read for owners who are experiencing problems in obedience training and/or understanding their dogs. Prospective owners who are contemplating what breed to buy and the pros and cons of adopting a dog to complete their lives and homes will also find them useful. I am also a dog foster parent and i use this book with all the fosters that come in my care so that they can be ready for adoption within a short amount of time.5 Stars for Jennifer Bridwell’s comprehensive contents, readability and effectiveness!

Great Book for old and new dog owners alike
My 11-year-old daughter and our dog have been taking classes with Jen Bridwell evern since our dog joined our family 2 years ago, and I am delighted that Jen has an opportunity to reach a wider audience. She is an amazing dog trainer, and her tips really work. We have a Cairn Terrier who does not jump on people who come to the house, never barks when he is inside the house (even if people come to the door or he sees squirrels out the window), and is the most well-mannered dog we could have hoped for. The book highlights everything that Jen covers in class. I highly recommend it!

The book opens with the comment that the current, treat based training methods for dogs, came from those used to train marine mammals with one major difference. Unlike marine mammals, you live in the “tank” with your dog.I was halfway through some very frustrating beginner obedience training with a two year old rescue dog, when I got this book from the library. The information is presented in a well written, humourous manner, with easy to follow training exercises that I used extensively. The training methods of positive reinforcement were a perfect companion training manual to our formal class training. I liked it enough to purchase it, knowing that I will reference it in the years to come. We graduated from Grade 1 (much to my surprise) and have a much calmer, and mostly well behaved dog around the house. I recommended the book to my obedience classmates as it was much easier (and more amusing) to read and follow than the class provided manual.
